Owners comments (owner since 2010): The Prima 38 is not only a competitive and fast boat on the race course, but also a very easy to handle cruiser due to its ballast and forgiving steering characteristics. Boat is in great condition inside as well not standard on boats that has been raced.
The boat is very stiff. Much stiffer than most cruiser/racers. Keel is impressive and rudder gives great control.
Boats heels once than powers on with ease. a have seen a lot of 40.7 broach and tumble the stability and large rudder is a great asset. very much alike of j-122 not like a 40.7 of other bendy alternative.
I have been cruising the boat on the North sea for several years, with small kids and a non-sailing girlfriend. Boat has sufficient sail area to make distance. For handling the boat is very easy. Great stability far more than 40.7’s and especially the relative large rudder makes for super control. I have been spinnaker reaching all day with force 5 no problem with the family. Boat is very easy to control.
