‘One of the coolest things we’ve ever done’ is how Adolfo Carrau of designers Botín & Partners recalls the Botín 65 racer-cruiser High Spirit   Sleek looks, yes, but don’t be fooled – High Spirit is more than a stylish package. Design sister Caro finished runner-up in IRC 1 in a highly competitive 2016 Rolex Middle Sea Race on corrected time, finishing less than one hour behind the full-on lightweight DSS racer Maverick. Just two boats have been built to the Botín 65 design. One, Caro, has been very extensively campaigned but is still a beautiful yacht. The second, High Spirit, is barely out of the wrapper and ready to win. ‘We are usually approached to design pure racing boats and we seem to do very well in this high-end market niche,’ says designer Adolfo Carrau. ‘However, when a private owner calls us to design a fast and beautiful boat without comprom ises and forgetting about any rating or box rules, then it’s a dream come true! ‘This is what happened when we designed Caro and High Spirit, as both owners were interested primarily in having a very fast boat to enjoy with friends and a small crew, mixing cruising and racing around the world. ‘We had a blank sheet of paper to create a unique boat for each owner, and we had a great time with both! The build standard matches the latest TP52 or Maxi72 – the owner really wanted the very best.’ Built by the composite artisans at King Marine at the end of 2015, High Spirit is equipped for sale with an inventory that would flatter a superyacht of twice the size. Every thing about the yacht is to the highest spec imaginable: high-modulus spars and bowsprit, carbon 3Di sails and an electronics and hydraulics inventory powerful enough to launch a satellite. And every single element of this boat is today as good as (or better than) new. ‘All our experience in racing boats for the Volvo and America’s Cup has been applied to the build of this amazing yacht. Using the most sophisticated materials and to a great design, High Spirit is one of the finest yachts that we have ever launched.’ – Pablo Santarsiero, managing director of King Marine High Spirit features an all-carbon hull and structure, with a Nomexcored deck to keep the centre of gravity low and sailing stability high, finished off with a beautiful teak deck. Then there is a hydraulic lifting keel to get you in close to the sand plus a state-of-the-art hydraulic drive train to silently but speedily spin the latest Harken performance winches. Sailing electronics are by B&G, hydraulic management and power by Cariboni, lines and cordage are all by Armare, with a second North Sails delivery wardrobe to keep the 3Di race sails pristine. As we said, the best of the best wherever you look. A race-winning new yacht from one of the world’s top designers and with a contemporary and light interior, the High Spirit cruising offer is also both elegant and extraordinary. And that race performance… a yacht with this degree of elegance that gets up on the plane when you start to lean on her in earnest. What else could any ambitious sailor ever ask for? This fast lift-keel 65-footer is being offered in as new condition for offers on € 1.500.000 Click here for the full specs of the boat From Seahorse magazine.

  • 0 The 2024 Olympic Mixed Keelboat Offshore Event

    2.50 of 6 votes

World Sailing has established a dedicated section of sailing.org to the fastest growing discipline in sailing, double handed offshore sailing. Offshore sailing is a universal discipline that every World Sailing Member National Authority (MNA) can participate in. Following the selection of a Mixed Two Person Offshore Keelboat Event at Paris 2024, event numbers for double handed offshore events in One Design boats and handicap racing have increased. The dedicated section on sailing.org, available here, provides information on Paris 2024 as well as a list of double handed offshore events that will be regularly updated. A section on equipment is also included. To encourage focus on the discipline of offshore sailing itself rather than on specific equipment, the Paris 2024 Olympic Equipment will be selected relatively close to the event. The broad discipline of doublehanded offshore sailing, which includes all doublehanded events over 50 miles in length, with no gender restrictions, and sailed one-design or under any rating system (e.g. ORC, IRC, or regional systems) can guide sailors and MNAs to focus their preparation efforts on the required skills to succeed. Skills such as seamanship, navigation, weather prediction, route selection, boat-handling and of course fast sailing, common to the discipline, can be refined rather than optimising the performance of a particular boat. The 2024 Mixed Keelboat Offshore Event will be a representation of this discipline. A very specific, one-race, mixed-gender, one-design, supplied-equipment, event with a specified duration. In recent weeks and months, a 2024 Offshore Equipment Working Party, that brings together members of the Equipment Committee and Oceanic and Offshore Committee, have been in consultation with manufacturers of offshore boats. The Working Party is developing a set of criteria in consultation with the industry both for the Paris 2024 Olympic event and for the qualification events. An initial draft of the criteria will be made public and accessible here when available. Towards the end of 2019, World Sailing issued a Request for Information to engage manufacturers and classes in the discussions around the equipment. World Sailing received 12 responses from manufacturers and designers who provided information on initial proposals. More on each manufacturer is available below: Dehler 30 OD Django 8s FarEast 28 R Figaro 3 J88 J99 J105 JPK1030 L30 Sunfast 3300 TEN2 Vector6.5 During the COVID-19 pandemic, the manufacturers all met World Sailing collectively via a video conference. Discussions centred around opportunities for all fleets, how World Sailing can help all manufacturers thrive and increase events, as well as emphasising the important of equipment equalisation and the one design aspect for the Paris 2024 Olympic event to ensure the focus remains on the skills of the sailor. The discussion was positively received by all manufacturers as they underlined their commitment to ensuring the continued growth of the discipline. The criteria for suitable Equipment for the Olympic Offshore Event will be published no later than 31 December 2020 and the Equipment will be selected no later than 31 December 2023.

  • 0 Racing resuming in Australia 6 June

Three weeks ago, the Australian Institute of Sport unveiled a three-stage process for the resumption of community sport. Stage Two, which allowed the commencement of predominantly non-contact outdoor sports involving fewer than 10 people, effectively gave the green light for sailing to recommence – with accompanying social-distancing protocols. That also enabled sailing clubs that had been working on Return to Sailing plans with the assistance of Australian Sailing to press the button on the phased re-introduction of competitive sailing for their keelboat fleets. In Sydney, at least, the process is being done in a consistent and coordinated manner with the cooperation of the region’s major clubs. The Commodores of MHYC, CYCA, RSYS, RANSA, RPAYC, RMYCBB, SASC, MYC and RPEYC have been meeting weekly with Australian Sailing and have mapped out a safe pathway for all classes and types of sailing. more info check> https://www.sailsmagazine.com.au/unlock-the-gates/

  • 0 La 39 Copa del Rey MAPFRE se disputará en 2021

    0.00 of 0 votes

Team New Zealand judged their return to the water on Thursday a success as they resumed testing and development, using their social distancing alarm devices. The America’s Cup defenders had their boatbuilders back in action on Tuesday as a return to level 3 eased working restrictions introduced to guard against the coronavirus pandemic. Now desperately behind with their plans following the five-week lockdown at level 4 they have sought advice from the government and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to get back on the water. The got clearance from the coast guard and the harbour master. Team New Zealand sent a crew of four out on their scaled down test boat Te Kahu. They reduced their staff on support boats. The sailors were wearing the new safety devices that have been developed over the last two weeks with the technology partner, Dunedin-based Igtimi. The battle against Covid-19 has sparked an impromptu technical innovation with their technology partner Zealand and Igtimi, a GPS tracking and big data company based in Dunedin, to create personal separation and contact tracing tags that sends out an alarm when the wearer is too close to a colleague.       An ultra wide band positioning system of personal tags was developed that accurately measures the distance between people. Worn by team member, the tags are programmed to react by flashing, beeping and vibrating when a pre-programmed perimetre is intersected. The interactions between the two tags (or people) are then logged for contact tracing purposes. More info & video
